The Queen ¹ú²ú´«Ã½ ’s community is remembering Professor Geoff Hodgetts, who passed away Nov. 22. He was a family physician and professor in the Queen ¹ú²ú´«Ã½ ’s Department of Family Medicine. Dr. Hodgetts championed inclusive, patient-centred curricula responsive to practice in diverse communities. He played a lead role in the Enhanced Skills programs and in strengthening international partnerships, including the Department of Family Medicine ¹ú²ú´«Ã½ ’s connection with the Falkland Islands.

Dr. Hodgetts ¹ú²ú´«Ã½ ’s influence extended beyond Queen ¹ú²ú´«Ã½ ’s and Kingston. He helped rebuild family medicine in Bosnia and Herzegovina after the war, supporting the training of a new generation of physicians and contributing to the renewal of the health system. He later worked in Afghanistan and other challenging settings, applying the principles of relationship-centred, community-based primary care where they were most needed, and helping strengthen policy, training, and practice.

The Department of Family Medicine says they will remember Dr. Hodgetts ¹ú²ú´«Ã½ ’s analytical mind and global perspective, as well as his well-timed humour and storytelling abilities.
