Lawrence Widrow and University of Alabama (Huntsville) collaborators Thomas Donlon and Sukanya Chakrabarti demonstrated a new method to determine the distribution of mass (including dark matter) in the Solar Neighborhood of the Galaxy. Their method, based on Gauss's famous theorem from 1867, avoids many of the assumptions required for other methods. The paper was published in Physics Review D.
